4 Entertaining Pool Games to Add to Our Fun-Filled Water Attractions
By: BiG Rig Media TechWater Attractions & Pool Games
Folks that spend the day or overnight at Great Escapes RV Resort in North Texas have been raving about our water attractions and for good reason.
“What a super fun weekend! Everything from start to finish was incredible! Our family’s favorite was definitely the inflatables on the water! Second favorite was the water park. I loved that all of the activities weren’t just for the kids, but adults could join in too! We will definitely be back!”

With the latest addition of our Wibit floating obstacle course, we now have a whole slew of ways to get wet ‘n wild. No matter your age, you can partake in the fun at our Waterpark, splash pad, and during Water Wars. Our 4 pools are also a part of our water attractions, and you can make them especially entertaining if you know the right pool games to play, like the ones below.
Make Pool Games A Part of the Water Attractions
- Air Ball: All you’ll need is a beach ball for this game. The goal is to keep the ball in the air without letting it touch the water.
- Pool Freeze Tag: This pool-themed version of freeze tag requires players to swim in between a person’s legs to “unfreeze” them.
- Kickboard Letter/Number Hunt: Help the little ones learn their numbers and letters using some leg strength. Drop foam letters or numbers in the pool. The game’s objective is to collect the numbers/letters in order using a kickboard to get to each.
- Dolphin Relay: Divide players into teams. Each team gets a beach ball. The object of the game is to push the ball from one side of the pool to the other side using only your nose. If hands are used, the player must return to the starting line and try again. The first team to complete the relay is the winner.
Become Part of the Great Escapes Family
We aim to keep our water attractions open every day at Great Escapes RV Resort in North Texas. However, if routine maintenance or repair is needed, we’ll inform folks as soon as possible via our website or platforms like Facebook or Instagram.

Camping Recipe: Easy Foil Packet Egg Breakfast
By: BiG Rig Media TechFoil Packet Camping Recipe
Easy prep, easy to clean, and easy to cook are the three hallmarks of a great camping recipe. That is why foil packet meals are at the top of so many camp cooking lists. Here is a customizable foil packet camping breakfast that the whole family can help make.
Making a Foil Packet
For this camping recipe, you will make an envelope with a sheet of aluminum foil and place your ingredients in the pouch before sealing and cooking.
- Tear off a large sheet of aluminum foil for each meal/family member.
- Fold the sheet in half.
- To seal the sides and make the pouch, make two to three small folds on either side.
- You will now have a square of aluminum foil sealed on three sides and open at the top.
If you are more of a visual person, this video shows how to make a foil packet.
Easy Breakfast Foil Packet Camping Recipe
Ingredients
- 6 large eggs
- 1/2 cup of milk
- Salt and pepper
- 1 package of frozen hashbrowns (thawed)
- 1 cup of precooked protein of choice (diced ham, bacon, crumbled sausage, etc.)
- 2 cups of shredded cheese
- Butter or cooking spray for foil
- Toppings of choice (chives, sour cream, sliced avocado, etc.)
Instructions
- Crack the eggs into a 1 gallon Ziplock bag, add the milk, hash browns, protein, cheese, and salt and pepper to taste.
- Seal the bag and massage it to mix all ingredients well.
- Have each person preparing a foil packet, brush their foil with butter or spray with cooking spray and fold their foil into a pouch.
- Divide the mixture up by having everyone spoon the mixture into their foil pouch and fold the top opening three times like they did the sides of the foil pouch earlier.
- Place packets over a campfire or grill for about 10 minutes or until eggs and hashbrowns are cooked.
- Open your foil packet (careful, it’s hot!) and add any topping you would like and enjoy.

Hiking, Boating, and Rock Climbing in Mineral Wells
By: BiG Rig Media TechCan cows climb rocks? Heck, no! But you can. Rock climbing is just one of many great outdoor activities you can enjoy in the middle of cattle country at Mineral Wells State Park and Trailway.
Drive 16 miles from Great Escapes North Texas for a day of hiking, rock climbing, and boating – the Park is located at 100 Park Road 71 in Mineral Wells, Texas 76067.
Hiking
The 12.8 miles of Park trails range from easy to challenging, from lakeside to scenic Cross Timbers trails. Novice hikers will like the Trailway, with its flat grades and gentle curves. The Trailway and most of the park trails are open to hikers, bikers and horseback riders during mild, dry weather.
Boating and Fishing
Lake Mineral Wells is a 640-acre lake with a boat ramp. Bring your own boat or rent one at the park. The Park rents flat-bottom boats with trolling motors, canoes, kayaks, paddle boards, and rowboats. Call (940) 325-3630 for information. Sorry, no skiing, tubing or jet skis.
Fish for catfish, crappie, sunfish, and largemouth bass and bring your catch back to Great Escapes North Texas to grill it up for dinner. Choose from six fishing piers scattered around the lake. You do not need a fishing license at this park.
Rock Climbing in Cattle Country
Penitentiary Hollow is one of the few natural rock climbing venues in North Texas. It is a small maze of sandstone bluffs. The walls range from 20 to 40 feet and are mostly face climbs with a few tough classics and plenty of easy to moderate routes.
Rock climbers must be at least 17 years old and must check in at headquarters to sign up for climbing with a guide. Those younger than 17 must have a parent or legal guardian present, or the youth must present written permission from a parent or legal guardian. Sorry, no cows allowed.
Although there are short trails for hiking and picnic areas in Penitentiary Hollow, dedicated rock climbers will need…
- Rope
- Harness
- Belay devices
- Locking carabiners
- Anchors
- Climbing shoes
- Chalk bag and chalk
When you want to give natural rock climbing a try, head out to Mineral Wells State Park. It is novice-friendly, while still fun for intermediate climbers.

Go Fish!
By: BiG Rig Media TechIf you love dining on fresh fish you’re in luck as some of the best catches can be had at Great Escapes RV Resort North Texas. Located in Perrin, Texas, it’s here you can reel in some catfish and bass from the shores of our private lake!
Spend the day casting your line and enjoying the open air in a place like no other. After you’ve got a cooler full of fresh fish, it’s time to head back to the resort and grill it up for dinner (or lunch).
Not sure about the right way to grill?
Here are some quick tips to make it easy for you as you sit around the campfire at the resort:
- Fire up the grill, add some oil on the grates by using a napkin every few minutes once the fish hits the grates. The oil will keep it from burning and sticking.
- Brush the fish on both sides with light veggie oil.
- Season with salt and pepper or whatever you like.
- Place the fish skin side down and diagonal.
- Cut heat back to medium, cover the grill, and cook. Don’t move the fish until the skin side is brown, crispy; around 2 to 4 minutes.
- Lift the fish gently with a spatula after 2 minutes; if it doesn’t cleanly lift off the grill, continue to cook until it releases cleanly.
- Flip the fish onto the second side by using two utensils.
- Cover the grill, cook until the centers of the fillets are opaque, or use a cooking thermometer to reach 125 degrees Fahrenheit.
Kickin’ Back
After dinner, relax at the pool or take in the starry skies from your RV site or cabin!
Just like our name Great Escapes RV Resort implies, this is truly a great place to come stay and enjoy fishing, and a whole lot more.
Fun and Fascinating – Texas Fossils You Can Keep
By: BiG Rig Media TechTake a little day trip that’s been millions of years in the making. Hop in the car and drive Hwy 281 to Mineral Wells Fossil Park. It’s just 16 miles from Great Escapes North Texas.
Fun for kids, fascinating for grown-ups, Mineral Wells Fossil Park offers the amateur fossil enthusiast the opportunity to find and collect specimens that are 300 million years old! The Park is full of them – they’re everywhere!
The park as it exists today is a result of more than 20 years of erosion of the old City of Mineral Wells landfill, which was closed in the early 1990s. You’ll find dime-sized fossils of sea creatures, corals, extinct trilobites, plants, and even primitive sharks all over the sandy hills and gullies.
Wear a hat, bring plenty of water, a small garden trowel, knee pads, and little zip-lock bags to store your treasures in. You can keep what you find. It’s completely FREE.
Open daily, 8:00am to dusk, Mineral Wells Fossil Park is located at 2375 Indian Creek Rd in Mineral Wells. For more information, call the Mineral Wells Parks and Recreation Department at (940) 328-7803.
